I dislike Teddy, but not the actress that plays her. She’s kinda great, unfortunately one of her strengths is playing this one lady I really dislike named “Teddy.”

A note to the (seven or so) readers of my Greys’ Anatomy Recaps. I have stopped writing them, as you may have noticed. The last two episodes focused on the least compelling characters and the most tedious plot lines and to my acute chagrin, were really, really good. Either I have nothing to say because I got tired of trying to come up with quippy impressions of a show I genuinely enjoy, or this show became genuinely enjoyable again.

The previous episode, called “Heart in a Box” actually had a story involving a Nicholas Sparks-esque novelist who refused a surgery because she needed to finish her novel (I think at one point she said “I don’t have time for family, I’m a novelist!” Ok). But maybe I had too much Barefoot Chardonnay because my pants were charmed right off by this whole thing! Moreover, the whole episode focused on George, a veteran character who was suddenly killed off a few seasons ago, who’s guileless portrayal by T.R. Knight frequently elevated the show from Felecity-level schmaltz to M.S.C.L. sincerity. George was awesome, and this episode seemed in many ways to be an homage to him. The show’s title refers to the admittedly awesome still-beating heart in an incubator Christina was charged with watching over, but I thought it could be a reference to George. George was the heart of Greys Anatomy, and anyone who watches this show on the reg was upset to see him go.

I failed at last Thursday’s recap for similar reasons. I’m not gonna tell you what happened, but there was a ton of creative, risky, medical shit that I found honestly riveting. As much as I would love to make fun of the way Owen stood there in the O.R. staring stupidly at Teddy for no reason (Like why did he not leave? It made it seem like the actor who plays him was like, “I feel like I can really nail this sad look if you let me stand here for 10 minutes.”), it would really be disingenuous. So, I get that it’s a real champagne problem to have a show you like to make fun of become too good to make fun of, but in case it does get stupid again, at least we have something to look forward to.
